Day 9

Today we traveled 247 miles and entered Arizona. We also visited Saguaro National Park.

Theodore and me next to a saguaro cactis.

  1. I like the head scarves, guys, in the cactus picture - very Lawrence of Arabia. That is an incredibly different landscape than what we're used to. How is the heat? Is it true that it's not the heat, it's the humidity?

Nathaniel - thanks for your info on the Alamo. It helped me get a better mental picture. I'm still struggling to understand the tarantulas and the jack rabbits, though.

Maryrose - that picture of you in your hoodie by the train is one that your Mom may be able to retire on one day. You looked pretty trained out at that point. How are you enjoying the desert? Did your brothers welcome you with open arms? If they were a little shy about telling you how much they missed you, I know your Dad wasn't. On to California - just think of the early settlers heading out in wagons. The Skamper offers a lot more than a prairie schooner - take care and travel safely - Olga
